Today’s CEOs, presidents, business owners and managers face a tough challenge in today’s economic times. The cost of doing business is increasing, while customers are demanding lower prices, not to mention the opening up of borders have made it difficult for domestic companies to compete with cheap labor abroad. These are hard times ahead, and navigating these waters will require a varying set of skills, and more importantly, innate qualities that will help these leaders and their companies survive.

It used to be that leaders only had to persevere and inspire their workers in order to be successful. There are qualities that all leaders should have - confidence, integrity, honesty, self-sacrifice, these are just some of the characteristics any leader should have. However, what we are talking about are the qualities that they need to keep their companies afloat and succeed in today’s business environment.

Strategic Thinker
Being a strategic thinker is quite different from being book smart or even worldly and street smart. While these two kinds of intelligence are great qualities to have, a strategic thinker can better navigate the muddy waters of today’s business environment because he or she starts with both a goal and plan of action to achieve those goals. Strategic thinkers think about the consequences of their actions, and how they can make decisions to get the best outcomes.

Also, part of strategic thinking is being flexible. A key to being a great leader is to listen, and not always think you are right all of the time. You need to be able to adjust to the different realities of today, and not be so rigid that you would sacrifice your companies and employees for your own pride.
Such leaders will be able to map out the path to success, and be able to see the pitfalls of their actions.
Calculated Risk Taker
With great risks come great rewards. That doesn’t mean that good leaders should be risking everything though – that’s just gambling and you’d be better off putting all your money on a round of roulette. A good leader is a calculated risk taker. That means he or she knows the upsides and downsides of taking any risk, and will only make the decision if there are more upsides. However, good leaders will also take the necessary actions to ensure the odds are in their favor. For example, if you were trying to win a singing competition, you would spend all your extra time rehearsing and picking the right song, instead of just waiting until the day of the contest to see how it goes.
A good leader will take calculated risks, knowing the there is better chance of success. A great leader, however, will also do what it takes to ensure success.

Influencer
Being a leader holds a lot of responsibility. He or she holds the position of making decisions, and more importantly, having an impact on other people. That’s why a great leader should be able to influence other people (both employees and clients) to do what’s best for the company and for everyone. Many people these days wield power irresponsibly – use it for their own gain or to sway people into doing unethical things. A great leader will know their own power, and use it to bring out the best in their employees, to encourage them to use their skills and knowledge because they know this can have a good outcome for the company.
Aside from being an influencer, leaders should also be influenced by the good and positive things in their lives.

We at Deconn Technical Services truly believe that great leaders are attracted to each other. We work with our clients, not just providing them with the best services we can give, but also ensuring that they can concentrate on being the best leaders possible to their companies.

Afshin, thanks for the proargm. Is not it ironic that exactly in the week that you talked about cloud computing and wished our computations to be cloudy, we got a thunderstorm on our radio's site and our site was down? Maybe we should listen to your advice and consider using cloud services for radio's site. This way the chances of it going down may decrease. Thanks Hadi for your proargm, I enjoyed it. There was some background noise in your audio though. I suggest you work on making your proargms shorter in time duration. Also, I suggest not giving away too much of the story of the movies, especially their endings (in the case of Social Network movie), if you want people to watch them and experience the same excitement as you did.
